Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
The first wasp of the year in the kitchen causes alarm, but a lone spring wasp and a summer worker mean different things, and the calendar tells you which.
Wasps can pass through very small gaps, and a damaged airbrick or missing mesh may give them access to a wall cavity, floor void or even your rooms.
When wasps keep surfacing inside the house with no open window to explain them, the building itself may be hiding the nest, and the pattern of where they appear is the clue.
Outbuildings, garden walls and lawn edges give wasps plenty of places to nest away from the house, so landlords need to look beyond the roof.
A chimney that has been unused for the summer is a sheltered, quiet space, and wasps entering the stack or the fireplace should be dealt with early.
