Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
Layers of clothing, a hat and gloves feel like armour, but a defended colony finds the gaps at the wrist, collar and ankle, and the clothing does nothing about a fall.
A nest in the ground gives no warning until someone treads on it or runs a machine over it, so knowing the signs outdoors is a good protection.
With an outdoor event on the calendar, timing matters; this guide works backwards from the day of the gathering to decide when treatment should happen.
Garages, sheds and summerhouses have fascias and eaves too, and because nobody walks past them daily, a wasp nest there can grow unnoticed until someone opens the door.
Knowing how wasps and bees behave when they sting helps you judge what has happened, treat it sensibly and decide whether a nest on your property needs attention.
