Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
Not every nest is in a roof. Ground nests in lawns and banks are common, easy to disturb and treated on the same fixed £120 basis.
A nest in a tree or hedge can be invisible all summer and obvious in November, which makes the leafy season the hardest time to find it.
Where a family member has a wasp allergy, a hidden nest is a more serious worry, and the most useful thing you can do is say so at the start.
The loft is out of sight for most of the year, which makes it an ideal place for a wasp colony to grow unnoticed until the numbers become hard to ignore.
A nest in a tree can be well above head height, so spotting it while the leaves are thin and the colony is small makes the visit simpler for everyone.
