Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
A nest in the roof one summer often leads to a worry about the next. A simple check each spring from the ground can catch gaps before wasps do.
If you know about a nest, it is sensible to warn anyone working nearby and to hold off jobs that need ladders and scaffolds.
A property that has dealt with one nest can still find a second in the same summer, and understanding why makes the second one far less alarming.
Wasps follow a predictable calendar through the year, and knowing which month brings which risk helps you plan hedge work around them safely.
When you can see the nest, its material and shape give strong clues about who built it, and you can learn a lot without going any closer than you should.
